Writing sympathetic characters

Characters must be relatable, not necessarily likeable.

Characters are not realistically edgy if their actions are not taken to move them closer to what they want.

Characters should be interesting.

Characters should be recognisable as human beings. This can be achieved by creating emotional moments for them where the movie tells the truth about humanity.
